JR will begin by asking you general health questions since there are some conditions for which massage is not appropriate. (see techniques page) You will be asked to fill out a simple form so she can start a file of your information. If you are going to be an insurance patient this is a good time to give your information for billing and a photocopy of your insurance card will be created.
Depending on the area of discomfort you may or may not need to undress. For a full body massage, most people undress completely. You, however, may choose to leave your undergarments on. JR will give you privacy to undress, and when you state that you are ready, and covered she will come in and start the massage. You will be relaxing on a massage table designed for stability and comfort so let the fear of falling, or breaking it go and relax. There will be an adjustable face rest so your neck stays straight and a support for your feet to help the lower back. The room will be quite and dim, and there may be music playing. JR will use a lite lotion and oil so skin friction does not occur. These are good for the skin and will help with any dry spots. If you have any allergies make sure you tell JR before the massage starts- this way she can opt to use some sort of alternative if necessary. Your first session depends on your massage history. Repeat patients who are only seeing JR for the first time will be worked on with more pressure, compared to a first time patient who has never received massage before.
During your massage you should just lay there and relax. If you need to move your position do so, otherwise JR will put you where you need to be in order for her to work the muscles properly. If at any time you feel the pressure is too hard say so and JR will adjust to your comfort level. Questions are welcome and JR will answer anything you may be wondering about. Your session will usually last anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour, unless talked about before hand. Expect the massage to start at the feet and continue up to the legs, back, arms, hands, shoulders, face and scalp.
After your massage you will feel relaxed and possibly rather tired. Don't be surprised if your are a little sore. Working every muscle in the body causes fatigue and the release of toxins. You need to drink at least two 16 oz glasses of water right after your massage in order to flush the toxins that were released into your blood stream. If for any reason you start to feel like you are catching the flu or a cold drink water Immediately.
