Support for the body, mind and spirit

Massage for the seriously ill may be called many things, including comfort-oriented massage, touch therapy, caring touch, and gentle touch. It differs from many types of massage in that it is designed primarily to soothe and console, rather than to fix or change. Instead of working toward a specific outcome, this kind of massage is adapted to the sick person's needs and sensitivities in the moment, which may vary tremendously day to day. Most often, sessions are short and quite gentle. Broad, encompassing movements, and soothing, but penetration static pressure are commonly used techniques. Your massage therapist may specialize in different types of bodywork which adapt well to working with the seriously ill. A few of these are Therapeutic Touch, Acupressure, Polarity Therapy, and Reiki. A person who is not in pain may enjoy a full body massage, but sometimes a gentle hand, face, or foot massage may be used for comforting.
